HOUSTON, TX – February 11, 2019 – Hirsch & Westheimer, P.C. is proud to announce that Jeff Shadwick, former Judge of the 55th Judicial District Court for Harris County, has joined the firm as a shareholder in the firm’s litigation group.
Following his graduation from Baylor Law School in 1981, Judge Shadwick worked as a commercial litigator in Kansas, where he focused his practice in the oil and gas industry. After moving to Houston in 1986, he became a board certified bankruptcy attorney and shareholder at the Houston office of Winstead, McGuire, Sechrest & Minick. In addition to his law practice, from 1997 to 2003 Judge Shadwick served as an HISD board trustee, serving as Board President in 2001. Judge Shadwick was appointed to the 55th Judicial District Court in 2007, and was elected to four year terms in 2010 and 2014. He served the people of Harris County in that role until December 31, 2018. During his entire tenure on the bench, Judge Shadwick enjoyed a reputation for being fair, smart and ruling on a timely basis.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Judge Shadwick my entire legal career, going all the way back to my days as a Summer Clerk at Winstead.” Eric Lipper, shareholder and head of the litigation group at Hirsch & Westheimer, said. “His perspective from having been on the bench will be a great benefit to our firm, our lawyers, and, most importantly, our clients.”
Judge Shadwick is a member of the Houston and Texas Bar Associations, and participates in the Houston and Texas Bar Foundations which support pro bono activities. He is an active member and Director in the Garland Walker Inns of Court, and authored a novel entitled ‘The Second Condition’. His experience as lawyer, elected official and judge will be invaluable in advising the firm’s clients, mentoring the firm’s young lawyers and in furthering Hirsch & Westheimer’s principles of stability, hard work, service, professionalism and loyalty.
